Still not tired after listening to three hours of blues, gospel and soul? Then you can listen and dance to one of Europe’s best Zydeco formations. When the organisers of An Evening With The Blues were searching for a closing act for the Café, they found ZydeGoNutz. They went to see them in a small café and were very impressed. Not only because of their repertoire, but their interpretations of the numbers that they perform. When you know how to inject a new feel to the Rolling Stones ”It’s All Over Now”, then your band certainly has great potential.
Some six months later we caught up with the band again, now on the main stage of Zydecozity, the biggest cajun-and zydeco festival in Holland which takes place in Raamsdonkveer. There everybody was on their feet dancing and we look forward to seeing it happen tonight in Tiel.
ZydeGoNutz is a solid four man line-up, with a powerful sound, that has it’s roots in the south of the USA. All the members of the band have many years in the business and are as adept at playing the smaller intimate venue as they are at performing on the main stage at festivals. Their trademark is American Roots Music: Cajun and Zydeco along with influences taken from Blues, Rock and Roll, Jazz, Folk and other music from around the world. The band was formed in 2008 by Ad van Emmerik (guitar, mandolin, harmonica and vocals) More than two years ago “ Allez Mama”, the band he was part of, broke up. But this was not an option for Ad. Together with Wulfert Jumelet (accordion and cajun squeezebox), Sam Murray (drums and vocals) and David van Dinther (bass guitar and vocals), you now find a band that positively radiates it’s enthusiasm to the audience. In its short time together the band has already built a solid reputation and they have played a number of important festivals, including the Jazz Festival in Breda, The International Cajun and Zydeco Festival in Raamdonksveer and “ Zydeco at the Sea” in Ameland.
On top of all that, the band was awarded three second places in the European Cajun and Zydeco Poll, Wolfert on accordion and Sam on rubboard.
This band is a big party and you are all invited. In other words, we start with Zydeco then it all starts to Go a bit Nutz !
