JO' BUDDY & DOWN HOME KING III
CAFÉ 20.45-21.45 Jo' Buddy is from Finland (real name; Jussi Raulamo) his parents were music teachers and he began classical piano lessons at 7yrs old. As a teenager he discovered the music of Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, classical piano was abruptly dropped and it was then all Rock 'n' Roll for the young Finn. The guitarists then caught his ear and he started skipping school to hang out at music stores listening to records and trying to learn guitar. He left high school in '83, joined his first band and by '85 was leading his own line up.
Jo' made his first of many trips to the States in '89. He started in New Orleans, and was blown away after experiencing live performances by Snooks Eaglin, "..after those hellava experiences I felt like I found a big missing part inside of me" . His next stop was Lafayette, Louisiana where he checked out local Cajun and Zydeco acts, then it was on to Austin, Texas where he joined a local band called the Griswalds. The band members had trouble with his Finnish name so started calling him Jo' Buddy. At that time and during subsequent return visits ('90 -'91) "…we gigged at barbeque parties e.t.c. all over in Texas". On his seventh trip to USA & Canada he performed for the first time as Jo' Buddy in cities across the North American continent as a solo act and with local bands. He gained respect in spite of playing his guitar through an old valve radio…or maybe it was because of it?
JO' BUDDY has a very individual & personal style! His laid back music spreads joy of life, being simultaneously timeless, earthy & spiritual. It's a raw, rootsy & wide open mixture of Ragtime, Down Home Blues, Old Spirituals, Boogie Woogie, Early Jazz, Western Swing, Folk, Country, Zydeco, Swamp Boogie, New Orleans Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Rock´n`Roll, Rockabilly, Garage Rock, Heartfelt Ballads...and even echoes Rhythms of Western Africa or Spanish Flamenco! And his versatile live repertoire consists only of his original world class songs! For those who believe in life before this one, he's assured that he led his previous life in New Orleans. He has made numerous pilgrimages to this cresent city, his guitar always as a companion. Why, he even got married there once!! Jo Buddy has made a fair pack of friends with his music in different parts of Europe, USA & Canada. Now he already has over 2.100 gigs behind him as a solo artist & a great number with many, many line ups but since 2004 he's been working on the road as a duo with the drummer wizard DOWN HOME KING III. He has also opened shows for such masters as Buddy Guy, Big Jack Johnson, Rosco Gordon, Carl Weathersby, Frank Frost, Louisiana Red, John Fogerty, Bob Brozman, Doug MacLeod, Big Joe Louis, John Mooney, The Fabulous Thunderbirds...and he has sat in with; Big Jay McNeely, Eddy Clearwater, Maceo Parker & Horny Horns, Lazy Lester, Kim Wilson, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Junior Watson, Carlos Guitarlos, Rick Holmstrom, Gene Taylor, Jo´ Buddy is a true music lover, who simply lives from his music and admires the "Good Ol´Times" - he really gives it all away when he begins to do the things he does the best - sing and play - in his deep and heartfelt way !!! For those who love the sound of T99 & Stinky Lou & Goon Mat, see An Evening With The Blues 2005 have to go directly to the café!
